Ensina Brasil is a non-profit organization which aims to develop a network of young and diverse leaders to expand opportunities to all children, beginning in the classroom. As part of the global Teach For All network, Ensina Brasil recruits, selects and trains talented young graduates to become full-time teachers in high-need public schools for at least two years. During their time in the classroom, they develop as future leaders in order to multiply their impact inside and beyond the classroom acting collectively to transform the educational system.

Why We Invested

Professionals in leadership roles in education in Brazil today do not reflect the country’s diverse face. While women are the vast majority of teachers and principals, they are less than a third of the state district leaders in office today. 89% of the current state district leaders can be considered white, while over half of Brazilians self-identify as black or mixed race. Ensina Brasil recruits and places diverse leaders in classrooms for two-year teaching fellowships in public schools serving vulnerable communities in Brazil. The organization’s proactive approach to diversity and inclusion make it a promising pipeline for diverse leadership talent.

The problem is too big to act on our own. We believe in the collective power of people, not in superheroes or superheroines.
