Why We Invested

Among the earliest wave of edtech entreprenuers in Brazil, Danielle Brants left her comfortable corporate role to address one of Brazil's most pressing social issues -- the country's literacy crisis. While official literacy rates remain high, over less than 10% of 15 year olds can read complex, age appropriate texts. Inspired by US-based edtech company Newsela, Guten set out to create a product that would enhance literacy through the engaging delivery of age appropriate nonfiction content. In 2019, Guten News partnered with another leading literacy-focused edtech in Brazil, Arvore de Livros, to create Árvore Educação.
