Why We Invested
Historically, social capital has played a critical role in career navigation and connecting workers to new roles, with at least 70% of jobs not officially published and up to 85% of all jobs filled through networking. This pressing need has only been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has left more than 40 million Americans unemployed. This problem is particularly acute for student parents, whose ability to find fulfilling and sustainable careers, impacts not only them, but also their children. Career Karma helps learners access middle-to-high skill tech jobs, many of whom are women, students of color and student parents. We believe there is an opportunity for innovators, like Career Karma, to shift how networks are built and who has the opportunity to access these networks and for career navigation tools to democratize information for job seekers.
Our goal is to help a billion people in 10 years or less The reason we are a social enterprise is because we have a scalable solution to arguably the largest economic issue of our time — which is preparing workers for the 4th Industrial Revolution.
