The Instituto Brasileiro de Estudos e Apoio Comunitário (IBEAC) was founded four decades ago to guarantee rights, education and opportunities for all, especially those in socially vulnerable situations. Over the past 12 years, the organization has shifted its focus toward systemic transformation and impact of São Paulo’s Parelheiros district, which today has more than 50,000 people. IBEAC has important initiatives that aim to transform the region, including creating community libraries, encouraging social entrepreneurship, and supporting educational efforts that strengthen a sense of community among learners.

Why We Invested

We know that one of the keys to social transformation lies in the positive engagement of learners with themselves and their communities. We invested in IBEAC’s proven ability to enhance the bonds of identity, belonging, autonomy and agency among learners in São Paulo. We hope to learn from IBEAC's trusted work in the field refining our own understanding of how to invest in opportunities that are first and foremost equitable and empowering.
