Why We Invested

Brazil’s “common core” national learning standards was created in 2018 with the goal of improving the quality of education across the country. The implementation of it requires the alignment of many moving pieces, such as local curricula, instructional resources, assessments and teacher training. In partnership with Lemann Foundation, we are working with Instituto Reúna, which is providing technical support for states and municipalities as they implement BNCC digitally. Instituto Reúna will help local leaders develop local assessments and curricula that align with national standards. Having a partner with strong community ties ensures a smoother transition for states and municipalities, and most importantly, helps minimize gaps in education quality for learners in Brazil.
